Confined Spaces

Courses Windmill-Training have developed a unique, realistic ‘Confined Space Training Unit’ made up from a network of underground concrete tunnels and manholes. The pipes have been laid out to ensure all our courses offer realistic and numerous scenarios providing the candidate with a comprehensive understanding of working in confined spaces.
We offer a comprehensive range of City & Guilds courses to cover all of your needs. We start with the low risk, shallow entry which we offer with a Windmill-Training certificate. We do offer the City & Guilds qualification, however the cost of assessment makes it the same price as a medium risk certificate.
When a candidate completes the high risk certificate, this qualifies them for the low and medium risks classifications. The high risk course combines the overseer, or top man, training. Those who are intended to be designated overseer, or top man, will be assessed on an additional day. The overseer, or top man, must hold a high risk certificate in addition to the overseer qualification. Following on from the high risk training candidates can progress to the rescue team course. The ‘Confined Spaces Training Unit’ is just part of our ground works academy.
Below are some images taken during the construction of the tunnels which illustrate the layout and their extent. The network consists of three manholes, two are 4m deep and one is three metres deep. One of the 4m manholes has a ladder the other is for winching only, while the 3m manhole has step irons. These manholes are all connected via tunnels in a figure of eight configuration with a control bunker at one end. The tunnels are built into a bank so although there is a realistic feeling of being underground infact there is an exit out if required.
